The Me You See

Me and my food-baby, swinging in a bat-filled cenote in Mexico.

Thanks for stopping by!

I'm never very confident when it comes to these profile thingies, or my ability to make it so charming and intriguing that you're hooked by the first sentence. You have 30 seconds to make a lasting impression, and all that. Anyway...

In the "Real World", my name is Melissa. I answer to Melissa, Mel, Missy, and Lissy. Vital stats are:

Female
Married (very very recently)
30 Years Old (again, very very recently)
Librarian
Living in the hothothot deserts of Southern California, and daydreaming about the far-off day when we can move to some location where there are seasons and variances in the weather.

Other than that...I come across very confident, but I'll be the first to tell you I'm fairly insecure and neurotic. I'm a Gemini, which means I'm intelligent and a good communicator, adaptable and very, VERY curious. But...I hate being a Gemini. We're fickle and flighty and talk too damned much, and getting any project done is a major challenge, because halfway through, our interests get caught into something else. (I call this the "Oooh, shiny!" effect.)

Recently I underwent a sort of "creativity renaissance". I got interested in scrapbooking, and then stumbled into the black hole that is JoAnn's and Michael's. I was seduced, I tell you! All of those  supplies just called out to me. Now I daydream about learning how to work with chalks and pastels and acrylics, and making jewelry and mixed media art. And then...it got worse. I started using Google Reader, and its "blogs like this" option led me down a deeper, blacker hole of crafts and homemaking blogs. And I'm hooked--for now, anyway.

Did I mention that I'm a Gemini?

On May 28, 2010, on a beach in Mexico, I married the world's awesomest man, known here as "Himself". He makes me laugh, he's adventurous,  he doesn't mind my dead-starfish-smelling-morning breath (AKA "the miasma"), he loves cats, and he brings me out of my shell. I'm looking forward to the next 50 or 60 years we get to spend together.

There will be no children from this union. And we are both blissfully happy with this decision.

For years, I have blogged on and off. I'm trying it again, and we'll see how it does. I'll try to find my voice, I guess. While there's no certain theme going as of yet, a fair portion of this here bloggy thing might focus on how I manage to become a career woman, wife, and homemaker. Other than that, I just like to focus on the fun and blessed life that I have. Every now and then there will be some snark, mainly directed at my very own potentially-mentally-unstable blog stalker (Hi Lisa!), but in general, being mean takes far too much effort and not enough creativity. And on that note, I'll end with something positive...
